Frequently Asked Questions

What is Virtual Bonsai?

Virtual Bonsai is a free 3D bonsai tree generator that runs entirely in your browser. Pick a tree family, grow a new specimen from a random seed, then tune the density, breeze, light, pot color and scene palette until it looks right. Nothing installs and nothing uploads.

Which bonsai species can I grow?

Eleven cultivars across six families: six flowering cherries (Fuji cherry, Somei Yoshino, Kanzan, Shidare Yoshino, Shirotae and Kiku-shidare-zakura), plus Shimpaku juniper, Japanese black pine, trident maple, Japanese zelkova and tiger bark ficus. Each one has its own silhouette, branching habit and foliage.

Can I save or share a bonsai I made?

Yes. Capture saves a high-resolution PNG at up to three times your screen resolution. Copy Link puts the exact tree, including its seed and every color, into a URL you can bookmark or send to someone else.

Is Virtual Bonsai free?

Completely free, with no account, no signup and no ads. Everything runs client side in your browser, so your trees never leave your device.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Drag to rotate, pinch to zoom, and tap Settings to open the controls. It runs on any modern mobile browser that supports WebGL2.

What are the keyboard shortcuts?

M opens and closes the settings panel, R grows a new tree, S captures a PNG, L copies a link to the current tree, Space pauses or resumes the motion, and Escape closes the panel.

Drag to turn the tree. Open Settings for species, light and colour.
