What is Wander Valley?

Wander Valley is a procedural landscape generator that builds an entire anime-styled valley from code every time the page loads. Terrain, river, village, railway, weather, season and time of day are all derived from a random seed. Nothing is a texture, a 3D model or an audio recording.

How do I get a different valley?

Accepted Answer

Reload the page, press N, or open the settings panel and press New Valley. Each valley has a seed number you can copy and share; adding it to the URL as ?seed=NUMBER reproduces that exact landscape.

What are the controls?

WASD or the arrow keys walk, Shift runs, dragging with the mouse looks around, the scroll wheel zooms, F toggles flight, Space and Ctrl move up and down while flying, T summons the steam train, C starts the cinematic camera and Escape closes any open panel. The mouse is never captured, so you can leave at any time.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Drag on the left half of the screen to walk, drag on the right half to look around, and pinch with two fingers to zoom. The renderer measures its own frame time and scales quality automatically to hold a smooth frame rate on mobile GPUs.

Can I save a picture of the valley?

Yes. Press G, or open the settings panel and press Save This View, and the current frame downloads as a PNG. Save size can be set to your window, 1080p, 1440p or 4K, and the whole scene including shadows, reflections and post-processing is re-rendered at that size rather than upscaled. The view on screen does not change while it saves. The seed is written into the filename, so the picture is also the key that reproduces the valley it came from.

Can I record a video or a GIF?

Yes. The settings panel has a Record group that saves an MP4 or an animated GIF of the live scene, from two to fifteen seconds, at 720, 1080 or 1440. MP4 uses H.264 where the browser supports it and falls back to WebM in Firefox. GIF is a 256-colour format, so gradients band and files grow quickly; short clips at 720 work best. Recording uses the shape of your window at a higher resolution, so the framing matches what is on screen. Keep the tab in front while it records, because a background tab is throttled and the export will stutter.

Does it collect any data?

Accepted Answer

No. There is no account, no sign-up and nothing is uploaded. The whole valley is generated on your own device and nothing you do in it is stored or sent anywhere.

Can I use it as a screensaver or a wallpaper?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Leave it alone and the cinematic camera takes over, drifting between shots on its own indefinitely. Put it full screen on a TV or a spare monitor and it runs as an ambient scene with no input at all.

Is any of this a real photograph or 3D model?

Accepted Answer

No. Every blade of grass, stone, cloud, tree and musical note is generated mathematically at runtime. The file contains no images, no meshes and no audio samples.

Why does the frame rate change while I move?

Accepted Answer

The renderer measures its own frame time and continuously adjusts internal resolution and grass density to hold a steady frame rate. You can lock this behaviour to a fixed quality level in the settings panel.
